Tanzanite is a relatively modern gemstone having only been discovered in 1967 and brought to the jewellery world by Tiffany, the famous New York based jewellers. It was discovered at the foot of Mount Kilamanjaro in Tanzania and named after that country. The gemological name for Tanzanite is in fact Zoisite.
